Eoin's story

Eoin's story

Ten-year-old Eoin grew his hair during lockdown and raised an incredible £235 for Place2Be. He shares his story and advice for anyone considering taking on their own fundraising challenge.

Inspired by his friend Millie, who went through a tough time during lockdown, Eoin wanted to raise money for Place2Be.

Eoin explained that “Millie suggested Place2Be because they helped her so much when her mum was poorly and during lockdown when we couldn't see each other. Millie and I have been friends since we were three, though we live in different towns now.”

Getting a haircut wasn’t the end for Eoin’s long locks. The hair was donated to another excellent charity and repurposed into a wig for someone who needs it.

Tell all the people you know that you're raising money for charity. I raised much more than I anticipated. Eoin

The amount raised by Eoin could pay for more than 14 children to speak to a Place2Be counsellor about their worries in a lunchtime session.

Eoin’s advice to anyone struggling with their mental health

  • Talk to people about it, and don’t leave all your worries in your head until you get really upset.
  • Try to do all the things that you like and try to distract yourself.
  • Get a journal and write in it every night.
