The Young BAFTA Roadshow with Place2Be arrives in Oldham, Manchester

The Young BAFTA Roadshow with Place2Be arrived at Greenhill Academy in Oldham, Manchester, today, offering pupils a unique opportunity to engage directly with professionals from the screen industries.

The visit forms part of the annual Young BAFTA Roadshow programme in collaboration with leading children’s mental health charity Place2Be, which aims to raise aspirations, promote creative skills, and support emotional wellbeing among primary school pupils.

The day was hosted by television presenters De-Graft Mensah and Kia Pegg, with special guest Michelle Collier, a games designer and storyteller. With a series of activities designed to build confidence and stimulate imagination, students are introduced to potential careers in the creative industries.

Greenhill Academy is situated in a diverse area of Oldham and is committed to nurturing ambition, achievement, and a sense of belonging. In partnership with Place2Be, the school supports children and families through a range of emotional and mental health practices. Today’s visit further reinforced that work, providing a memorable and enriching experience for pupils in Key Stage 2.

Now in its ninth year, this initiative between Place2Be and Young BAFTA Roadshow brings creative professionals into schools across the UK, with a particular focus on underrepresented communities. Each visit is tailored to engage pupils through assemblies, workshops, and informal discussions, while also highlighting the importance of mental wellbeing in the development of young people.

The Young BAFTA Roadshow complements Greenhill Academy’s existing efforts to encourage self-expression, resilience and aspiration among its pupils.
